Corvallis Startup Weekend generates active startup teams

Saturday, December 5th, 2009

On Dec 4-6, a group of 38 people gathered together at Belle Vallee Winery to explore the process of going from idea to revenue at the first Corvallis Startup Weekend. At the same time, people in Boston and in Paris were also exploring the same question.

Teams gathered on Friday night to brainstorm differrent possible projects. Of the 17 projects proposed , the teams formed up around several core projects:

* WebProjectWizard - http://www.webprojectwizard.com
* RSVPmadeEasy - http://www.rsvpmadeeasy.com
* Related Folks - http://visualgeneology.relatedfolks.com
* Hour li - http://www.hour.li
* Sherpa Dask - http://www.sherpadash.com
* Montessori Apps - http://www.montessoriapps.com

Each of the teams have put up websites and all have twitter addresses.

At this point in the project, the teams are heads down writing code, doing marketing plans, building social media buzz and moving forward. We will do another report out for over dinner. And this is just on Saturday, we have a whole day more to go.

Will any of these projects make it all the way to revenue? At this point, only one of the sites has a pay pal button up and working….. Soon there will be more.

Making the most out of Corvallis Startup Weekend

Monday, August 31st, 2009

On Oct 23-25 December 4th through 6th.

The Startup Weekend Website says:

Startup Weekend is a 54 hour startup event that provides networking, resources and incentives for individuals and teams to go from idea to launch. Get connected with local developers, innovators and entrepreneurs. Build community. Start Companies. No Talk, All Action.

From all of the Twitter traffic, the latest Startup Weekend in Redmond was a great success. I see that Roy Leban, one of the WAC 2009 participants participated and was able to get something up that generated revenue at the event.

We are working on putting together a Startup Weekend for Corvallis: http://corvallis.startupweekend.org

We will hold the event on October 23-25th December 4th thru 6th at the Belle Vallee Winery in Corvallis.

We could use use your help to make this a great event:

* If you think this is for you, please sign up to attend
* Please pass this on to your network to make sure the word gets out
* If you have an idea, start talking to your friends and put together a team
* Please send in suggestions, questions and opportunities.

I was at the Portland Startup Weekend about a year ago, when Mugasha got started. Now they have launched as a company. It is great progress. Hopefully we can do the same kind of thing at the event in Corvallis.

To help us get ready for the Startup Weekend in Corvallis, I would like to point you to an article by Danielle Morrill from Seattle. It is a very interesting post about Making the most of Startup Weekend:

I hope you can explore some of her suggestions in detail by joining us at the event along with your friends.
